It’s a tremendous privilege to begin serving as your interim president today. I step into this role during a period of unprecedented uncertainty and change. From research and global engagement to athletics and the rise of AI, nearly every aspect of USC’s mission and work is being challenged and reshaped.

Over the past month, I have heard from many of you regarding federal guidance on issues that could have significant ramifications for universities across the country. We appreciate there is uncertainty and I’m writing to update you on how USC is reviewing and responding to these recently issued executive orders and federal agency directives.

It’s my pleasure to share the exciting news that Stacy Roberts Giwa has been appointed senior vice president of human resources. Stacy has been serving in this role as interim since October 2024. She brings a wide breadth of experience, skills, and expertise to this critical university function. Stacy will oversee USC’s Human Resources, Equity, and Compliance division, as well the Office of Professionalism and Ethics; the Office of Culture, Ethics, and Compliance; and the Office for Equity, Equal Opportunity, and Title IX.
