Dear USC Community,
It is wonderful to see our campus alive with in-person classes, activities and events that provide opportunities for our students to learn and interact. We’ve enjoyed seeing so many of you at our evening concerts, involvement and career fairs, and so much more.
A thriving Greek Life has been a part of the USC experience and tradition for many students for more than 130 years. We were disappointed last month when eight fraternities ended their relationship with our university. This was especially disappointing because student representatives from the USC Interfraternity Council (IFC), Panhellenic Council, and Undergraduate Student Government worked closely with faculty and staff to evaluate and create enhanced safety and risk management procedures and prevention education trainings. The final report of the Working Group on IFC Culture, Prevention and Accountability can be found here.
Disengaging is part of a national trend that has affected universities across the country. Because of the lack of oversight and out of concern for the safety of our students, the university strongly discourages students from attending events at or joining these unaffiliated organizations.
We have created a FAQ webpage to address common questions we have heard from the community. You can contact Student Affairs at studentaffairs@usc.eduwith additional inquiries, thoughts, or comments. We will update the FAQs as needed.
We wish all of you a safe and engaging Fall semester.
Sincerely,
Charles F. Zukoski
Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs
Monique Sosa Allard
