Update on Access Protocols for USC’s University Park Campus

August 5, 2025

Dear Trojan Family,

I’m writing to update you about new security protocols that will permit more convenient entry to our University Park Campus by students, faculty, staff, and community members, effective today. Under these new protocols, security personnel will staff campus entrances, but ID swiping will no longer be required to enter campus under ordinary conditions. In the event that the university temporarily needs to close campus entrances or require ID checks for any reason, we will make every effort to notify the community in advance.

In making these adjustments, we carefully analyzed our perimeter operations and experience both prior to and since May 2024, and listened carefully to a broad range of feedback, all while prioritizing the safety of our Trojan Family. None of these adjustments alter our expectations for anyone entering our campus. Our University Park Campus is private property and all members of our community, whether affiliated with USC or not, must abide by our rules ensuring that every Trojan can learn, study, teach, work, and thrive. In the weeks and months ahead, we will carefully assess how these perimeter adjustments are working, and will not hesitate to adapt and improve them as needed.

I want to end by thanking you, as every member of our Trojan Family plays a role in making our university campus the vibrant, safe, and welcoming place that it is. I look forward to seeing you around campus soon.

Fight On!
