4/9 Commencement update for 2020 and 2021 graduates

April 9, 2021

Dear Trojan Community,

I am pleased to let you know that state health officials have opened commencement to participation by the full graduating classes of both 2020 and 2021. This also applies to international students who are permitted to travel to the United States. International students currently located abroad should work with the Office of International Services to review potential visa and U.S. entry challenges involved with such travel.

Capacity restrictions needed to meet social distancing requirements still limit graduates to no more than two guests. The state also continues to require those guests to be California residents, and they are not making exceptions for those who have been vaccinated. We understand the frustration and disappointment these restrictions and their timing are causing and will continue to urge state officials to allow out-of-state guests to attend commencement ceremonies. We will let you know immediately if these requirements change.

We are scheduling graduation ceremonies twice a day from May 14 to May 25. All graduates must pre-register, so please go to our commencement webpage and follow the registration instructions. We’ve extended the registration deadline to April 15. Please note, if you do not register in advance, state regulations will not allow you to participate in commencement. Once registration has closed, and we have firm numbers, we will be able to finalize a schedule with the time and date for each ceremony by school.

We are looking forward to seeing even more of you at graduation this year. Stay safe and Fight On!

Sincerely,
Carol L. Folt
President
