10/19 – Winter Recess update

Dear Trojans,

With the USC Competes initiative, we are committed more than ever to investing in you: our world-class faculty and staff.

Every day, you bring immense talent and dedication to support the university’s mission. You ensure that teaching, research, artistic creation, professional practice, and public service thrive here.

You are critical to all aspects of our organizational success – especially the success of our students.

Our recent Trojan Family Weekend is the perfect example. We hosted more than 150 sessions and united 7,500 Trojans – a near record – right here on our beautiful campuses, with all 50 states and 23 foreign countries represented! The response has been incredible because of your exceptional efforts to welcome our guests and ensure the weekend’s success.

It was so meaningful to connect and celebrate our shared community. If ever there was a moment to feel such incredible gratitude for all your hard work, now is the time.

In that spirit, we are pleased to announce that, for all eligible employees, USC will be adding an additional week to our Winter Recess, which will now begin on Monday, December 19, 2022 and end on Monday, January 2, 2023.

We hope this gift of time creates additional opportunities for you to connect with family and loved ones and to recharge, reset, and reflect.

For those divisions or units that cannot close completely during the Winter Recess, you will be able to take off the equivalent number of regular Winter Recess hours at an alternative time consistent with university policy, and the additional week of Winter Recess (extended Winter Recess hours) may be used any time before June 30, 2023.

Eligible employees include all USC employees except those who, as part of our commitment to our patients, spend a majority of their time providing patient care. More detailed information will follow from unit leaders and individual managers and is included in this FAQ.

On behalf of the entire USC leadership team, we want to thank you for all that you do. We hope you have a restful winter break.

Fight On!
