3/1 – COVID-19 Vaccine, Phase 1B, LA County Education Sector Eligibility

March 1, 2021

To: USC Faculty and University Staff

As of March 1, LA County has opened eligibility for all employment-based categories in Phase 1B, including education, childcare, emergency services, or food and agriculture sector employees, to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Most USC employees meet the criteria for vaccination at public vaccination centers. Due to current vaccine shortages, we encourage employees to make appointments at the most expedient location available to you. This may be through pharmacies, retailers, large-scale public vaccination sites, or through your current health care provider.

PUBLIC VACCINATION CENTERS

USC employees are eligible for appointments at public vaccination sites in LA Countysee the County website for appointments. A USC ID badge and paystub, along with photo ID (does not have to be government issued) will be accepted as proof of employment-based eligibility. Proof of residency/working in LA County is also required. Attestation letters are available through your HR Partner if you need additional employment-based documentation to support your eligibility. The statewide scheduling site https://myturn.ca.gov/ is also a valuable resource for finding appointments.

CAMPUS-BASED VACCINATION APPOINTMENTS

USC Student Health continues to work through groups of on-site employees based on occupational risk prioritization as assessed by USC Environmental Health and Safety. More than 5,600 vaccines have been administered at the UPC location in the Lyon Center. If you are eligible, you will receive an email to your USC email account from your Human Resources Partner; at this time, please do not forward USC invitations as this may prevent on-site workers in essential services from being able to make appointments.

KECK MEDICINE PATIENT/PUBLIC VACCINATION PROGRAM

Keck Medicine of USC is also administering vaccines — based on weekly vaccine availability — at clinical facilities and isopen to current patients and the public, when doses are available, to the following: people 65 or olderpeople ages 16 to 64 who work in health care, education and childcare, emergency services or food and agriculture. Sign-ups are on a first-come, first-served basis, whether a member of the public or the USC community. Waitlists are not available at this timeAppointments are required; walk ups are not accommodated at this time. Visit the Keck Medicine COVID-19 vaccine websitefor appointment availability and scheduling information.

UPDATING FACULTY AND STAFF VACCINATION RECORDS

  • Vaccinations through USC Student Health: You will have your vaccination automatically recorded in MySHR.
  • Vaccinations through Other Vaccination Centers (Public, Keck, Pharmacies, etc.): After each dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, faculty and staff must upload a photo of their vaccine cards in MySHR (https://usc.edu/myshr).
  • Faculty and staff who choose not to get vaccinated, please complete the declination form and upload into MySHR so your record is complete. (Note: declinations forms are no longer accepted, as of revised university policy dated June 29)

LOOKING AHEAD

We appreciate our community’s patience and cooperation as we work through the vaccine rollout during this period of shortages. We look forward to making the vaccination program more broadly available when supplies are regularly delivered to our clinical locations, and we come ever closer to the end of the pandemic.
