The annual, previously scheduled safety drill for USC’s Department of Public Safety, the Los Angeles Police Department, Los Angeles Fire Department and others will take place on Friday, December 19, at USC’s University Park Campus. This drill, which has been planned for months, will proceed as scheduled and will simulate an active shooter scenario that is especially timely given recent tragic events on the East Coast.
The drill will occur in the northeast part of UPC and involve several buildings, including Leavey Library, North Residential College, the Royal Street Parking Structure, the Davidson Conference Center and the Dworak-Peck School of Social Work. The University Club will be used as a staging area. We encourage you to avoid this area of campus on Friday if at all possible.
To create a more realistic drill, we will use replica weapons and have actors with simulated injuries. Gunfire from the replica weapons may be heard along Jefferson Boulevard and Figueroa Street.
Participants will begin to gather on campus at 7 a.m. The drill will start at around 9:30 a.m. and is scheduled to end at 12:30 p.m.
