Dear Trojan Family,
At USC’s recent AI Summit, we shared an exciting announcement: As part of our commitment to expanding equitable and responsible AI, ChatGPT Edu will be available for our university use in 2026. All active USC students, faculty, and staff (including Keck Medicine of USC) will gain unlimited access to ChatGPT Edu, which includes OpenAI’s most advanced models like GPT-5.
As part of USC’s intention to lead in the responsible use of AI, we wanted to empower students, faculty, and staff with the most advanced forms of this technology so that they can develop greater facility and experience with both its power and its limitations. More specifically, this technology will:
- Empower students: Ensures equitable access to GenAI that supports learning, creativity, and digital fluency.
- Support faculty: Enables instructors to explore AI for teaching innovation, content creation, assessment support, and research collaboration — within secure parameters.
- Accelerate research: Unlocks new possibilities for research and innovation in an environment that meets compliance standards.
- Improve operations: Allows staff to be more productive and enhance the overall service experience across USC.
For faculty that have questions about incorporating AI into their teaching, robust resources are available at USC’s Center of Excellence in Teaching website. Visit AI Resources at USC to explore the additional AI resources available today to all users. These sites will be updated with additional trainings, best practices, and support resources in the months to come.
We want to thank USC Marshall School of Business Dean Geoffrey Garrett for leading the AI Summit and for leading the university’s AI Strategy Committee.
Fight On!
